The End of Intelligence Quotient?
In the book If Aristotle Ran General Motors: The New Soul Business, Tom Morris indicate (implicitly) that wisdom is a new phenomenon in postmodern culture. This trend indicates the occurrence of convergence (meeting point) between two different ideas (eg business vs. spirituality, God vs. mammon) that in fact can not be incorporated by Jesus.
For Tom Morris, making money is not an illicit activity such as that difatwakan by religious institutions. Making money (make money) is a sacred activity: an opportunity to glorify God's name, land to serve God and man as the demands of Jesus. So, how do I? The trick is to have to bring spirituality into the business. Conscience must bring into the world of business so there is no corruption. So, making money becomes sacred when the activity aims to glorify God. This is called a conscience-based management.
Trend bring together two different things (convergence) can be seen from the symptoms that a lot of literature, writing, essay, lecture, which discusses the convergence. In addition, the resulting view of a holistic (complete) about the reason. Around the 1990's the world of psychology emphasize IQ (cognitive side). One's ability is only measured by IQ. But now, there is a new science: EQ and SQ. In short, there is evolution of knowledge and awareness.
Phase-shift stage and IQ to EQ and SQ
a. Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
Reason in IQ is considered as the ability to solve problems. According to IQ tests, the more intelligent a person (cognitively) the higher a person's ability to solve problems. Well, how to measure that person is intelligent? How to measure it is to create an IQ test is divided into two (2) parts. First, linguistic test. And the second is a test of mathematics. Through the linguistic test, someone tested their ability to understand the ideas or words. This test is similar to Textual understanding.
Someone tested its ability to enrich the text with his own experiences. Concretely, who tested the writing ability, the ability of one's narrative. Example: how to string up the word "sun rises, farmers, water buffalo" became one essay a logical and interconnected. Through this test, someone tested kemampunnya how her words and data processing. In short, which is expected from the IQ test is capable of knowing one's cognitive ability is the extent to which a person knows a lot of things (to knowing something). In addition, to determine the psycho-motor, namely the extent to which a person is able to do something (to do something or to operate something).
b. Emotional Quotient (EQ)
Around the 1990's a psychologist, Daniel Goleman coined the term new in the world of psychology and the term is immediately arrested and taken public. He promoted the term "EQ". Goleman observes that there are parts of life (tar / on) but ignore the most important, the dimensions of "living and working together." It is a fact that humans lived continuously. Humans would not want to cooperate. Therefore, the EQ is very dominant in this region. EQ can disrupt the human person can also develop.
First, emotional factors are often considered to be negative. Then, Goleman EQ examine whether emotional value is positive. It turned out very positive emotional and very decisive in the world of work. The higher the EQ the more positive and more negative on the downside EQ. Someone who has a high EQ will be able to realize the "feeling and mood of" what is hidden. There are two benefits from the ability to realize the feeling and mood.
First, provide a combination of self-control (self control) and self-motivation (self motivation) so that one is able to prioritize which ones should be prioritized. Self control is very important that we not "moody" is not changeable, not easy explosive (explosive, press people, fight only). Through self-control, a person is expected to give priority to the obligation than the feelings, the interests of the ego.
Secondly, to improve the ability to realize the feelings of others (the power of empathy). The latter has two benefits. First, the power of empathy facilitate consensus when there is misunderstanding. Second, the power of empathy increase compassion, generosity: the ability to respond to the joys and sorrows of others.
In this way (recognize dimensions of EQ), then the person becomes a partner / colleague and neighbor (fellow). Through "shared" with others, EQ trying to answer the question Cain: if I my brother's keeper? Cain's question is a sign that he is not sensitive, shy away from responsibility and liability. And, in the description above, the question has been answered Cain: Cain is a guard that her sister!
c. Spirituality Quotient (SQ)
Around the 2000s when the millennium transition, resulting trend and a new term, namely Spirituality Quotient (SQ). Originators are Danah Zohar, and her husband, Ian Marshall. Previously I have discussed that IQ would solve the problem of knowing and doing, in terms of how to know better and do better. In other words, IQ gives us competence. While the EQ will solve and describe living and working together, in the sense of how to create harmony and an atmosphere conducive to daily life. In short, the EQ to build co-existence (exist / taste side by side with others).
Well, SQ was going to solve anything? SQ deal with the problem of being and Becoming (being and becoming). SQ would solve the problem: how to become a person who is right and good. In other words, SQ willing to give advice about otensitas to us. Otensitas is the authenticity and genuineness of character. His opponent is a hypocrite, like the Pharisees. In addition, SQ will solve the problem of why we must "care" to others, or on the living-an. Building depth SQ, today, is very important. Moreover, the world is being hit by the culture of death: trying to kill the other. Those who fall into this culture, may realize that such actions are not good and not wise.
